Being from Cameroon myself, i was really pleased to discover this 2007 drama from director Joséphine Ndagnou depicting a really sad but all so true reality. Paris à tout prix ("Paris at any cost" or "Paris or nothing") introduce us to Suzy portayed by Joséphine Ndagnou herself.
Suzy, a young woman from a working-class neighbourhood of Yaoundé decide to immigrate to Paris in order to find a better life. There she thought, she would be able to make it, realise her dreams, which would lead to an ease of her family's financial misfortune and poverty. The movie tittle says it all so clear, Suzy has set her mind, and will reach Paris at any cost. After several unsuccessful attempts at buying a visa, and a failed attempt to cross the maritime border between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, she ends up selling herself as a ultimate solution. Suzy finally succeed in her plans of getting into Paris, but here like where she came from, the reality is harsh, she soon realize that the French capital that she once idealized is a lot tougher than she imagined.
